Olds 455 oiling issues
WebOct 24, 2012 · As I understand it this is an inherent issue with these motors, it just seems too low for my liking. 1976 455 fresh build with Edelbrock heads and intake, speed pro forged pistons, comp cams flat hydraulic. I inspected the cover throughly for wear and installed a high pressure kit (1/4" taller gears and that goofy spacer plate with dowel pins). WebNov 23, 2010 · The oiling problem with Olds motors has to do with getting too much oil to the top end and too slow of a drain back. This causes the bottom end to caviate and starve. The fix is to put restrictors in the lifter galleys, which limits the amount of oil that goes up through the push rods.

WebJun 9, 2011 · Just had my Olds 455 rebuilt at a professional engin builder and it is blowing oil out the breathers on the valve covers and out the oil fill tube. I checked the compression and have near 150 lbs on all cylinders. It has a tunnel ram intake with 2 holleys. There is NO pvc on the engin now. Where do I start looking? What is 2nd 3rd etc. Thanks Sam WebJan 6, 2002 · The starving for oil problem with the olds is largly due to the small oil return holes in the heads. the extra volume of oil pumped to the top at high rpm can not drain back to the pan fast enough. Extra volume oil pans will give you a margin of saftey to avoid sucking the pan dry.
